Grammy-nominated and Dove Award-winning gospel artist VaShawn Mitchell is celebrating 20 years since his debut as a recording gospel artist with his new "20/20" project, planning to release 20 new songs this year. His first offering is Cross Music, an EP with five all-new tracks that releases March 16, just ahead of Easter.

Cross Music is a celebration of Christ's work on the cross, promising to offer a deeper connection to the resurrection and sacrifice for believers to carry with them throughout the year. The first single off the new EP is the ballad "You Took The Nails" which is meant to match the gravity and profoundness of the holiday, according to a press release.

The EP promises a bold approach to the subject of the cross of Christ, but at the same time Mitchell skillfully blends familiar expressions throughout the project, which will help anchor new and seasoned listeners alike in their celebration of the Easter message. It all adds up to equal parts exploration and celebration, with the album's tracks not only reminding listeners of the Lord's work at Calvary through a variety of styles and sounds, but also displaying Mitchell's growth as an artist and musician.

This week, Mitchell is releasing his latest single "He Got Up," to gospel radio, featuring legendary gospel singer Dorinda Clark Cole. The song hearkens back to Mitchell's beginnings with its vintage choir sound which long-time fans will immediately recognize.

Mitchell is collaborating with four top gospel platforms to launch the remaining four tracks from Cross Music every day next week ahead of the EP's Friday release. The first song is released Monday, March 12, according to the following schedule:

Monday, March 12 at gospelguru.com

Tuesday, March 13 at rootmagazineonline.com

Wednesday, March 14 at ugospel.com

Thursday, March 15 at gospelgoodies.com
