'50 Shades of Grey' Movie: Cast Not Revealed at Comic-Con 2013 / Author E.L. James: Director Sam Taylor-Johnson Understands the "Fifty" Experience
I know some of you were hoping for some casting confirmations in regards to the film adaptation of E.L. James's breakout novel 50 Shades of Grey at last weekend's Comic-Con 2013 in San Diego. Though we'll still have to wait to find out who will play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, James did talk a little bit about why director Sam Taylor-Johnson got the job.
For James it started with being a fan of Taylor-Johnson's work.
"I saw both of her films, and I was blown away," James said. "[It's] simple. She's creative, incredibly talented, she's got an extraordinary eye. She had a good idea about the whole 'Fifty' experience, she understands it."
James did admit she wasn't the only one with a say in the decision process.
"Everybody keeps asking, 'Why did you decide ...' It wasn't just me! There's a huge friggin' studio behind this," James said in an interview with Vulture.
Along with Sam Taylor-Johnson, Kelly Marcel has been signed on to write the screenplay for the raunchy erotica. Along with James, Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti will produce the 50 Shades movies.
Brunetti is probably best known for his work with Kevin Spacey in 1999's American Beauty, which could fit the "50 Shades" experience perfectly. It's dark, dangerous, forbidden...everything the 50 Shadesof Grey movie adaptation needs.
Focus Features recently announced 50 Shades of Grey will hit theaters in the U.S. August 1 2014.
Hopefully we'll have some casting announcements soon!
