'50 Shades of Grey' Movie Cast News: Charlie Hunnam, Dakota Johnson Announced as Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele / August 1 2014 Release Date

100 percent of the 50 Shades of Grey casting rumors have been confirmed. Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson are the lucky[ish] actors to land the parts of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Over a month after naming Nowhere Boy director Sam Taylor-Wood as director, E.L. James announced the over-speculated actors who would take on the kinky roles of Grey and Steele.

Hunnam, who is fresh off his biggest film to date Pacific Rim, is probably best known for his role of Jax Teller on the smash FX series Sons of Anarchy. If you've seen Hunnam on the show, on a talk show, or anywhere Hunnam being Hunnam, you know the young male lead has the chops to be both action hero or seductive benofactor. Could this be the role that puts Hunnam in the same category as some of his male acting idols?

Maybe.

Depends on how Universal Pictures and Focus Features decide to handle the raunchy film adaptation.

If aiming for a tween-to-pushing 50s demographic, the actor's charm could sell tickets, but earn him nothing more than a fat paycheck. If handled with steely nuisance and charming precision, maybe more.

As for Dakota Johnson [daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith] this could be the breakout role the young actress has been waiting for. After a brief stint on the since-cancelled FOX sitcom Ben and Kate, Johnson will have to handle the role of the submissive, 21-year old college student "Ana" Steele.

Beating out the likes of Hollywood heavy hitters Henry Cavill, Ryan Gosling and Robert Pattinson, along with Emma Watson and Alexis Bledel [on the other side], both Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson will have their work cut out for them.

50 Shades of Grey, the movie, is scheduled for an August 1, 2014 release date.
