ABC's new superhero drama "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." premieres tonight to strong critical reviews. The pilot episode features Agent Phil Coulson from "The Avengers" movie and puts him in with his new crew called the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division AKA S.H.I.E.L.D. As one can see in the trailer, the ridiculously long title of the outfit is used as joke fodder throughout the show but could become a bit cumbersome as the joke grows older in the season.

The show takes a new approach to the superpowers audiences are used to seeing in the Marvel world. The series premiere explores the question, "what happens when normal people have to deal with superpowers in an everyday setting?" There are no Avengers to fly in and use their superpowers to battle evil (at least not yet).

The actors from the cast all hinge around Coulson, who is a beloved character from the Avengers series that every viewer will immediately identify with. This season 1 premiere pilot episode should be quality TV and will engage the audience in a way that the blockbuster Avengers could not.
