'Close Your Eyes' 2013 Album "Line in the Sand" Review
'Close Your Eyes' has gone through quite the extensive past two years as they've continued to go through multiple band changes, until they finally found lead singer, Sam Ryder Robinson from "Blessed By a Broken Heart". Robinson came on in 2012 and saved what seemed like a imminent break-up of 'Close Your Eyes'. The british singer seems to have a great deal of influence on the team members as "Close Your Eyes" is beginning to get right back on track and the third album, "Line in the Sand" proves every bit of it.
'Close Your Eyes' is a hard rock/punk band that has a multitude of different sounds that all manages to conincide with one another to make a great sounding rock album, "Line in the Sands". The punk songs are beginning to be more edigier and the elements of the band in general are changing for the better to make a stronger hardcore sound. Though, 'Close Your Eyes' is known for their hardcore elements and vibe, the best songs of the 'Line in the Sand' are the more melodic singles. Such songs as "Glory", "Line in the Sand", and "Frame and Glass" all take a different perspective with being a little less hardcore, and more apt to focus on the meaning of the song. The sound of the band is noticeably different with Sam's british vocals, but it doesnt really pop out at you until the single, " Kings of John Payne". "Line in the Sands" is a great rock album that really focuses on speaking to this generation of fans with bringing up those particular issues that people may be afraid to address. Songs go through the daily battles of having demons, keeping hope, and really just having faith in God when all seems lost. The album seems to have a story line as you listen to each song directly after another as it continues to point out that everything will be okay and there is a brighter horizon. The intro track "Deus Ex Machina," sets the tone of the album by having a very somber melody but really paints the pictures of what the message will be about with such lines as "I remember when I could hear the sounds of the world", than picks it up with a slight scream to get edge in. 'Close Your Eyes' ends the album with the single, "My Way Home" where it clearly paints the whole picture of a broken teenage reality that finds hope when he believes he is completely lost. Overall, the new musicianship of the "Line in the Sands" album is still spectacular. Old fans from the original 'Close Your Eyes' set up will not be dissappointed, but will see that Sam's voice is a great compliment to the team. They may not be the same band, but the new album gives them enough motive to overcome the past and start a brand new future for "Close Your Eyes". "Line in the Sand" is definitley going to be one of the best albums of this year, as "Close Your Eyes" takes another step into becoming a great rock band.
