Since PEDs are "out" of the MLB, there's usually a lot less offense in the All-Star Game. Citi Field in New York isn't really a high scoring field, though it is 9th in the league in home runs allowed.

But the 2013 All Star game is plagued with injured pitchers. Verlander's out. Wainwright out. Darvish out. Zimmerman out. Locke out. Colon out. Wood out. The list goes on and on. How do you juglge around the rosters, putting most of the emphasis on second tier pitchers?

In 2012, the Mets moved the fences in to allow for more home run opportunities. The key for tonight's All Star game? The heat. If it's hot and the ball carries, some of the backup pitchers may have trouble keeping it in the park.

So who has the advantage? The American League or National League.

While the American League only has two left-handed pitchers available to play, the National League has 5 or 6 to get the job done. Is that really the only matchup advantage in this year's game?

Matt Harvey and Max Scherzer are getting the starts for each team, respectively. Harvery is the first MLB pitcher to start an All-Star Game in his home stadium in nine years. Roger Clemens was last to do it with Houston in 2004.

Tigers skipper chose right-hander Max Scherzer for AL. The week going into the 2013 All Star Game Sherzer has allowed 6 earned runs,  and 13 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched.
