Amazon Prime Air Cost and Benefits: What Unexpected Pros and Cons Come with Autonomous Drones? [Video]

Now that the shock of autonomous, flying drones that deliver you various items less than 5 pounds in weight has slightly worn off, let's take a sober look at all of the pros and cons that come with Amazon Prime Air. There are plenty of benefits to be found at such a low cost with the use of delivery drones through Amazon Prime Air, but what are some of the risks?

One of the first problems that consumers might not immediately realize is the risk that one of these drones could be hacked by a third party in the region. Sammy Kamkar, an entrepreneur and self-proclaimed hacker, says that he already has a way to take over command of one of Amazon's new flying delivery drones. Kamkar, who engineered the "Sammy Worm" that infected Myspace in 2005, said, "The drone flies around, seeks a wireless signal of any other drone in the area, forcefully disconnects the wireless connection of the true owner of the target drone, then authenticates with the target drone pretending to be its owner, then feeds commands to it and all other possessed zombie drones at my will."

Kamkar claims that he already has his own drone that is ready to intercept Amazon drones, and it only cost him $500 to make.

Todd Humphreys, an assistant professor at the University of Texas in Austin, told NBC News, "Amazon is an enormous company with deep pockets. If somebody takes down one of their drones and keeps it in their garage as a trophy, or even takes down five drones, do you think Amazon is going to bat an eye? No. They'll just send out another one."

Do you think that the cost and benefits of Amazon Prime Air delivery drones outweighs the dangers of hacking? Let us know what you think in the comments!
