AMC's "The Walking Dead" Plans Prequel Spinoff Detailing Early Days of Zombie Apocalypse
AMC is currently planning a 2015 release of a "Walking Dead" spinoff that reportedly features the early days of the zombie apocalypse. AMC has so far declined comment on the rumors, but they have been confirmed by "Walking Dead" show creator Robert Kirkman. He told IGN that the show will be in an entirely different place and will feature entirely different characters and actors.
Kirkman told Rolling Stone, "We are going to see an entirely different corner of 'The Walking Dead.' It definitely won't be set in Georgia, I can at least say that. It's important to us that this show exists on its own. The spinoff has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we've sold out."
The show is in its first stages of production right now, so many things could change about the setting and characters before the show actually airs in 2015. As of now, the show is supposedly about the first days of the zombie epidemic and the effort by authorities to contain the virus. Unfortunately, we all know how that ends, because rumors have it that the show is a prequel to "The Walking Dead" which takes place after the zombie apocalypse.
Some fans are hoping that the prequel spinoff will show some of "The Walking Dead" characters living their lives before the epidemic. Right now, it looks like Kirkman is trying to shy away from that idea, but you never know, the show has plenty of time to develop before filming starts.
