'American Crime Story' Season 3 Spoilers: Another Emmy Winner Cherry Jones Joins Third Season Cast
Another Emmy winner is set to join the cast of "American Crime" season 3.
According to Variety, "24" veteran Cherry Jones will join the upcoming season of the highly acclaimed drama as the matriarch of a vast family-owned agricultural business. The actress, who will have a recurring role, will join previously announced returning "Crime" cast members Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton and Regina King. Benito Martinez, who last appeared in the premiere season, is reportedly returning in season 3 to portray a larger role.
In 2009, Cherry Jones won her Emmy for portraying female President Allison Taylor in "24" season 7. Aside from being an Emmy winner, Cherry Jones is also a five-time Tony nominee. She is currently part of the cast of Amazon's "Transparent," where she plays a professor and poet named Leslie Mackinaw. The series will air its final episode on September 23.
The upcoming season of "American Crime" will be set in North Carolina where LGBT rights are currently a hot issue. It will also shoot scenes in Los Angeles, where the production team recently obtained California tax credits.
In his interview with Variety, executive producer John Ridley revealed that season 3 will focus on workers' rights and reproductive rights. He also revealed that unlike the first two seasons which focused on a single person's guilt or innocence, season 3 will center on "our greater complexity."
ABC announced the renewal of "American Crime Story" for another season in May. Season 3 will consist of eight episodes and will premiere on ABC sometime next year.
