Angelina Jolie Criticized by Singer Melissa Etheridge for Getting Double Mastectomy Saying it was "Fearful, Not Brave"

Angelina Jolie, who has made headlines recently for her choice to have a double mastectomy in May has come under no scrutiny to this point and gotten praise from many for the way she has handled the situation and was pro-active about it.

This was until singer, Melissa Etheridge, decided to shake up the conversation and give a different view of the situation to the Washington Blade.

Etheridge said, "not something I could believe in for myself". This is actually the most fearful choice a woman can make because many times cancer does not develop.

She went on to say, "My belief is that cancer comes from inside you and so much of it has to do with the environment of your body."

Melissa Etheridge is a breast cancer survivor herself, battling in 2005.

"I've been cancer-free for nine years now, and looking back, I completely understand why I got cancer," Etheridge added. "There was so much acidity in everything. I really encourage people to go a lot longer and further before coming to that conclusion."

Etheridge thinks that a preventative mastectomy should be the last resort choice for a woman. Get a second and third opinion from Doctors and go from there.

Brad Pitt responded to the comments saying, "she is a proud, bold individual and is sexy as ever".

"Melissa's an old friend of mine," Pitt added. "I'm sure we'll talk on the phone. I don't know what it is."

Jolie has never said that this is how another woman should handle the situation, this is just what she wanted to do for herself.
