'Arrow' Season 5 Release Date, Spoilers: Oliver Queen In A State Of Denial?

"Arrow" will reestablish its identity as a superhero series as it returns for its fifth season.

The series has been in danger of being cancelled by The CW as flashier superhero shows continue to come along. While the fourth season of the show suffered amidst a sea of more popular and high-powered superheroes, the upcoming season is geared up to introduce a new round of colorful heroes and deliver gripping action.

Season 5's premiere episode, "Legacy," will center on what made "Arrow" the foundation that the DC TV universe was built on in the first place. There are speculations that the upcoming season will focus on Oliver Queen, since he has the most experience and history of all the superheroes on the small screen.

Directed by stunt master James Bamford, "Legacy" introduces Chad L. Coleman of "The Walking Dead" as Tobias Church, an imposing crime lord who has a plan for Green Arrow.

In the season 4 finale, Oliver finally defeated Damien Darhk and was elected interim mayor of Star City. However, this victory is short-lived, especially after Diggie and Thea left the team in the previous season. Season 5 will pick up five months after, with Felicity fully ready to move forward and pushing Oliver to recruit new members to take the place of Diggie and Thea. According to reports, Oliver will remain in a state of denial.

According to executive producer Wendy Mericle, Oliver is still hoping that Diggie and Thea will come back and things will go back to normal.

"I think he's really saying that they're going to come back, we're going to get back to Team Green Arrow, and we're going to fight the good fight," he said. However, he will be forced to face the reality when the new villains storm the city.

"Legacy" airs on October 5, 8:00 P.M. on The CW.
