'Ballers' Season 3 Cast News Update: Next Season Relocates To California

After filming its first two seasons in Miami, "Ballers" is now moving to California for its third season.

The decision to transfer came as the film and television tax incentives program of Florida expired earlier this year. This was after the state legislature voted down a measure early this year to replenish the funds.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, the hit HBO comedy filmed its first two seasons in the Sunshine State. Due to the recent legislation in Miami, however, the future of the once-booming film industry of the state is now uncertain.

According to reports, production spending within the bounds of Miami has plunged in the past few years, from $366 million in 2011 to just about $175 million in 2015.

Last April, HBO revealed that it would reevaluate the situation of "Ballers" considering the lack of incentives.

"We have a long history of shooting projects in Florida and were obviously disappointed in the recent vote to not renew the incentive program. We will be assessing its impact on any future productions like 'Ballers,' who have established Florida as their home," said the network in a statement.

"Ballers" is the seventh TV series to move from another state to California since the film commission expanded its tax incentives program last year. Other shows to relocate are "Veep," "American Horror Story," "Scream Queens," "Mistresses," "Secrets and Lies," and "American Crime."

With the move, making the next 10 episodes of "Ballers" season 3 in California is estimated to result in the employment of 135 new cast members, 209 base crew and 5,700 extras.
