Batman Arkham Origins Season Pass Canceled for Wii U Version of Game Due to Low 'Demand' of DLC's
Batman: Arkham Origins will no longer be getting season pass support for the Wii U version of the game because of the lack of interest of the game on Nintendo.
"Based on demand for DLC content on the system, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has made the decision to remove its offering of the upcoming all-new story campaign for Wii U," a Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment spokesperson said to Polygon.
People who have purchased the season pass will be refunded their $19.99 for the game through the Nintendo eShop.
Polygon reported that Nintendo sent out an email to all users of the Wii U version of the game.
It reads:
"Thanks so much for your support of Batman: Arkham Origins on Wii U.
We are contacting you today because you purchased the Batman: Arkham Origins Season Pass for Wii U. We hope you've been enjoying the content that has been delivered thus far. Based on demand for Downloadable Content on the system, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has made the decision to remove its offering of the upcoming new story campaign for Wii U. As a result, we will be crediting the entire $19.99+tax cost of the Season Pass back to your Nintendo eShop account. You will still be able to enjoy the content already released thus far.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your support of the game."
This is a huge blow to Nintendo and testament to just how bad things have gotten for the Wii U. It is quite possible more games will follow in this fashion if things keep going south.
As a result, Nintendo boss, Satoru Iwata announced he will be taking a pay cut due to the lack luster sales of the Wii U.
Nikkei reported that Iata along with a number of other Nintendo execs have collectively decided to cut their pay until the company is back and kicking. The other directors will get a 20 to 30 percent pay cut, and this will be effective from February to June. From there, the company will play it by ear.
