Blizzard DDoS Attack News & Update: Another Attack On Battle.net Servers Grieving Hearthstone, WoW, Overwatch Players
Gamers were surprised to be denied access to the Battle.net servers on Sunday only to find out the news about the Blizzard DDoS (distributed denial-of-service cyberattack).
Battle.net, of course, is the online gaming network on which Blizzard titles like "World of Warcraft," "Overwatch" and "Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft" are being run. It's not clear how many players were affected, but it's safe to say that the numbers run into the hundreds of thousands or even millions.
The news about a Blizzard DDoS was confirmed by Blizzard Entertainment itself in a Sept. 18 tweet that read, "We are currently monitoring a DDOS attack against network providers which is affecting latency/connections to our games."
The attack was reportedly owned up to by a group calling themselves Poodle Corp., which used to be affiliated with another hacking group, Lizard Squad. The group promised to release their alleged choke hold on Blizzard's servers if the tweet assuming responsibility for the DDoS was retweeted 2,000 times.
Poodle later released Blizzard's server after the tweet that read, "2k RTs and we bring @Blizzard_ent Online #PoodleCorp" received 2,113 retweets.

This latest Blizzard DDoS attack is clearly frustrating for players considering that this is not the first time. In fact, it's reportedly the third such attack for this week alone.
This was confirmed in an article by IBTimes, which claimed that gamers started having trouble getting to the Battle.net server both on Sept. 13 and again on Sept. 16. Apparently, they could not log on to the server, or their usernames were not authenticated.
VentureBeat reported that the first news of the attack was reported following the launch of "World of Warcraft: Legion" last month.
