Iron Man 3, Despicable Me 2, Hunger Games Catching Fire, Fast and Furious 6, and Monsters University Round Out Top 5 Blockbusters of 2013

With blockbuster films such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier set to arrive to theaters this year; let's review the blockbuster films of 2013.

The top 5 movies that wowed audiences in 2013 were all sequels: Iron Man 3, Despicable Me 2, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Fast & Furious 6, and Monsters University.

Disney's Iron Man 3 starred Robert Downey Jr in the lead role as the aforementioned Iron Man, also known as billionaire Tony Stark. Don Cheadle reprised his role as Stark's best friend and sidekick, James Rhodes aka War Machine. Gwyneth Paltrow returned as Stark's love interest Pepper Potts. Academy Award winner for Best Actor in 1982's Gandhi, Sir Ben Kingsley also joined the Iron Man cast as Trevor Slattery.

The film sequel made a phenomenal 1.2 Billion dollars in box office last year.

Universal's Despicable Me 2 starred actor Steve Carell (Felonious Gru), comedian Russell Brand (Margo), and Miranda Cosgrove (Dr. Nefario), as all reprised their roles in the sequel to the 2010 film. Former Saturday Night Live alumnus Kristen Wiig also returned to the cartoon flick but as a different character.

Despicable Me 2 made an amazing 918.8 million dollars last year.

Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire starred Academy Award Winner Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen) along with Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Woody Harrelson (Haymitch Abernathy), Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket), and musician Lenny Kravitz (Cinna).

The sequel to 2012 movie juggernaut made 797.5 million dollars last year.

Like the Hunger Games sequel, Universal's Fast & Furious 6 had an all-star cast that included Vin Diesel (Dominic Toretto), the late Paul Walker (Brian O'Conner), and former WWE Champion Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Luke Hobbs).

The last installment of the Fast and Furious franchise made 788.7 million dollars in 2013.

Rounding out the Top 5 movies of 2013 was Pixar's Monsters University. The film was the sequel to 2001's Monsters, Inc.

Billy Crystal (Mike), John Goodman (Sulley), Steve Buscemi (Randy), and John Ratzenberger (Abominable Snowman) all returned to their respective roles.

The film made 743.6 million dollars in the box office last year.

The rest of the blockbuster films that made the top ten respectively were Man of Steel ($662.8 million), Gravity ($653.3 million), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug ($633.1 million) Thor: The Dark World ($629.9 million), and The Croods ($587.2).

If 2013 is any indication of how well sequels do well in the box office, Iron Man 3 records could be shattered by this year's Blockbuster films.
