The Boston Red Sox won the World Series last night after they beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 in Game 6. The win came in Boston at Fenway Park, which was the first time the Red Sox won at home six 1918. The first time since 1918 they won the World Series was in 2004 against the St. Louis Cardinals and then again in 2007 against the Colorado Rockies.
David Ortiz of the Red Sox was named the most valuable player of the series after hitting two home runs and knocking in six RBI's. He also scored 7 runs himself and had a batting average of .688 for the series. Ortiz said, "Winning this World Series is special. I think it might be the most special out of all the World Series that I have been a part of."
Michael Wacha, a 22-year-old pitcher for the Cardinals, felt like he let his team down even though he was virtually untouchable in the playoffs leading up to the game last night.
He said, "It's very disappointing. Everyone on this club wants that ring. I didn't want to win it for myself. I wanted to win it for these guys in this clubhouse. They've been working their tails off all year. Whenever I have a poor outing like that, it hurts me even worse. I feel like I just let the team down. It's not a very good feeling, that's for sure."
The Red Sox took and early lead over the Cardinals and maintained it for the rest of the game. They managed to hold onto the lead until the final out and won the 2013 World Series. Take a look at a video of the Boston Red Sox celebrating their victory.
