Churches Now Using Beer to Attract New Members [More Details Inside]
As the congregations of many churches slowly dwindling away some are finding new ways to attract new members, which are not so church-like.
Church groups are drawing members in through the crafting of beer, which they are brewing themselves and some others are bringing new members to taprooms.
This trend can be seen in Fort Worth, Texas where "Church-in-a-Pub" has been holding worship services for a year. One anonymous attendant who occasionally leads worship says, "I find the love, I find the support, I find the non-judgmental eyes when I come here and I find friends that love God, love craft beer."
Church-in-a-Pub is sponsored by Pastor Philip Heinze and his Calvary Lutheran Church. Heinze says "pub church" is now the official Lutheran mission. "I'm not interested, frankly, in making more church members," he said. "I'm interested in having people have significant relationships around Jesus. And if it turns out to be craft beer, fine."
London also holds an annual Greenbelt Festival where beer and hymns are all the rage. 30 to 40 people gather at Zio Carlo Brew pub, order pizza and pints of beer, fellowship and have church service including communion.
What do you guys think about this new trend? Do you think this will actually increase the number of new members or drive them away? Stay tuned for more news and updates.
