Colin Kaepernick Expresses His Faith Despite San Francisco 49ers Loss, 'Try to Glorify the Lord with What I Do'

NFL viewers watched on Sunday as the Seattle Seahawks defeated the San Francisco 49ers by the final score of 23-17 in the NFC championship game to advance to the Super Bowl. One thing that was very visible in the game, aside from the team's will to win, was San Francisco 49ers star QB Colin Kaepernick's tattoos all over his arm.

Kaepernick is a Christian who revealed the purpose of his body art last year.

The quarterback's first tattoo was the Bible verse Psalm 18:39. The verse is inscribed on a scroll on his right shoulder that reads the following, "You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet."

The 49ers star athlete explained what the verse meant to him.

"Basically, it's saying the Lord is giving me all the tools to be successful, I just have to go out and do my part to uphold that," said Kapernick to Christian Today

Kaepernick is a "baptized Methodist, confirmed Lutheran and went to a Baptist church in Reno," said his father Rick to SF Gate.

"My faith is the basis from where my game comes from. I've been very blessed to have the talent to play the game that I do and be successful at it. I think God guides me through every day and helps me take the right steps and has helped me to get to where I'm at. When I step on the field, I always say a prayer, say I am thankful to be able to wake up that morning and go out there and try to glorify the Lord with what I do on the field. I think if you go out and try to do that, no matter what you do on the field, you can be happy about what you did," said Kaepernick to Daily Sparks Tribune in 2012.

Since Kaepernick's 49ers team was eliminated last night in Seattle, their NFC West rival the Seattle Seahawks will play against AFC Champion Denver Broncos and their future Hall of Fame QB, Peyton Manning.

Super Bowl XLVIII will be played on February 2 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
