CSI's 300th Episode Tonight: Can CSI Be Taken Seriously Anymore? [TRAILER] [LIVE ONLINE STREAM]

Tonight is a huge milestone for CBS's hit crime-drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as it reaches its 300th episode, something that only 8 other television dramas have achieved. Amidst all of the fanfare for this landmark episode, one question remains. Can CSI be taken seriously? Granted, CSI has always had a morbid sense of humor that bordered on cringeworthy television, but have the writers crossed the line into complete nonsense and insanity?

Last week, the new CSI episode featured a cooking reality show contestant who managed to pop an eyeball out on set. Verne Gay from NewsDay.com wrote, "Hard to tell how seriously even CSI takes itself anymore... CSI has always had a morbid sense of humor, possibly a writers'-room defense mechanism against staleness. But great serial franchises don't endure on blood and eyeballs alone, no matter how imaginatively rendered, but on great characters. They have been here in abundance, although only two have truly stood out over the years. William Petersen's Grissom left in 2009, and as perfectly adequate a replacement as Ted Danson's D.B. Russell has been, he is no Gil."

Gay goes onto explain what the 300th episode is actually about. He writes, "For Wednesday night's 300th episode, Marg Helgenberger returns for a one-night-only appearance to help in a 14-year-old case about a onetime casino executive who was squeezed for a similar crime all those years ago. Expect flashbacks - hey, what was the gang doing way back then, and - more important - what was Catherine Willows' hairstyle? Also, expect maybe a surprise or two?"

Tune in tonight to watch the 300th episode of CSI and check out this trailer for the new episode!
