Darlene Zschech Cancer Update: 'Shout to the Lord' Singer Says 'I Have Officially Finished My Last Chemo!' and Gears Up to Lead Worship Again (VIDEO)
Former Hillsong worshiper Darlene Zschech shares her latest update on her rough Cancer journey as she finished her last round of Chemotherapy and prepares to lead worship at her church for the first time since the diagnosis.
Zschech announced on her blog in December that she was diagnosed with breast cancer after attending a routine mammogram. In her latest post she was more than happy to share that chemotherapy is over and she is now ready to jump back into the swing of everyday life without cancer.
"I hope you can feel my excitement in this email as I have officially finished my last chemo!!" Zschech shared. "Hallelujah is about the only word that fits at the moment."
"I am SO thankful that it is coming to an end," she continued. She said that radiation starts this coming week for the next six weeks. "I shall be glowing from the inside out. And then thats it. Never again......" she declared.
Zschech's fans and supporters have continuously sent her messages of prayer and encouragement throughout the entire ordeal and for that she said she is very grateful. "On the days where I have felt I cannot do it anymore, I literally have felt the strength of people praying for me. The power of the Holy Spirit to comfort and strengthen has been beyond what I have ever experienced before," she explained.
The psalmist went on to say, "I have had ALOT of time to think, and to think deeply. So much to reflect on and pray about. Yes, this season has changed me..... for the better I pray."
Zschech said she now cries a lot more. "Not necessarily sad tears, but tears all the same. Even when I'm laughing I end up crying," she said. "I think the tears have taken the place of words for the time being.
"This too shall pass. One day the words to define this season will come. And I pray they bring HOPE to all who hear."
She admittedly noted, "Even though I unashamedly begged for God to heal me BEFORE treatment, He said to me that as I walked THROUGH He would never leave me."
She then offered advice, "This is the truth for all of us today, no matter what you may be facing, even if God feels far away, our loving Father will never leave us or forsake us. I take GREAT pleasure in knowing this beyond a shadow of a doubt. He is with me. He is with you."
On the blog post Zschech announced that she was "super excited" to be leading worship this Sunday at her church, and for the "first time" since her journey started. "Even if its a bit rough and ready, leading people to the courts of our God is my greatest honour. I simply cannot wait!"
Many have labeled Zschech as a "pioneer of the modern worship movement." Her biggest song to date is "Shout to the Lord" as it has become one of the most famous modern worship songs of all time, being sung by an estimated 25-30 million churchgoers since the song's release. Along with her husband they currently are senior pastors of Hope Unlimited Church.
