Microsoft Surface Studio News: Dell Smart Desk A Worthy Competition To Hybrid Surface Studio?

The new Dell Smart Desk is reportedly going to be unveiled during the CES 2017, and the buzz is that the new desktop would be worthy adversary to the Microsoft hybrid, Surface Studio.

A new BTS clip was released introducing the new Dell Smart Desk, and it showed the same functionalities of the Surface Studio. It even has the same hockey puck-like device such as the Surface Dial that Microsoft is selling for an extra $100.

There's no word on what Dell's removable device is called.

The voice in the clip says, "Our thoughts naturally transfer to paper. But there's a gap between what comes naturally and how we create digitally. Dell has changed that."

There's a bit of difference in the direction that Dell Smart Desk and the Surface Studio is going: the former opting to release two monitors that can be interfaced with various tools, while the Microsoft desktop features a hinged display and keyboard.

A spokesperson for Dell told PCMag, "Dell energized the audience with a sneak peek of its smart desk concept in action, teasing its innovative functionality and the exciting potential it will bring to creators everywhere."

It's interesting that Dell Smart Desk will be revived now, just a week after the Surface Studio was introduced, when the technology was already two years old.

The price for the Dell Smart Desk will be a significant factor to be a worthy competition, however. The Surface Studio is already prohibitive at $2,999. Will Dell go the same route as Microsoft when it comes to cost?
