Dennis Rodman's North Korea Basketball Game Draws Criticism, NBA Star Still Insists it is 'A Great Idea for the World'
Former NBA star Dennis Rodman supported his trip to North Korea with a group of former basketball players in a confrontational discussion today, stating it was a "great idea for the world," according to CNN.
The voyage happened just weeks after North Korea stunned the world by revealing the removal and execution of Kim's once influential uncle.
In a special conversation with Chris Cuomo of CNN's "New Day," Rodman answered irritably when pushed on whether the group should have toured there due to current actions surrounding the enigmatic nation.
"I love my friend," said Rodman to Cuomo in a reference to Kim during an interview carried out from Pyongyang. "This is my friend."
The other former NBA athletes are scheduled to play a controversial basketball game on the birthday of Kim Jong Un, North Korea's young, spontaneous leader. The exhibition competition with North Korea's team is set for Wednesday, when Kim is assumed to turn 31 years old.
According to the CNN website, there are also reservations of the well-being of U.S. citizen Kenneth Bae, who's been imprisoned there for over a year for motives that are unknown.
"Do you understand what Kenneth Bae did in this country?" said the former Detroit Pistons and LA Lakers Star to CNN's Cuomo. "You tell me. Why is he held captive?"
"I don't give a [expletive]!" Rodman added, shrugging off teammate Charles Smith's efforts to quiet the situation. "I don't give a rat's [expletive] what the hell you think!"
Bae's mother Myunghee Bae spoke to CNN last year, and revealed that her son's Christian faith was so resilient, he wanted to express his views.
"Always, he wanted to help the people over there, help the country," said Myunghee to CNN last year. "He always thought that way, but apparently he misunderstood their system, so a lot of things he realized -- he did some harm to their country."
North Korea is formally an Atheist government and has chastised several evangelists historically.
