'Descendants of the Sun' Season 2 Release Date, Spoilers: Song Joong Ki And Song Hye Kyo Won't Be Part Of Sequel
Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) already confirmed that "Descendants of the Sun 2" will happen but there is no assurance that its original lead stars, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, will be part of the sequel.
According to reports, the two lead stars declined to reprise their roles in the sequel due to conflicts in their respective schedules. However, fans continue to hope that they will still be back for the new season.
Fans speculate that season 2 will see Captain Yoo Si-Jin and Dr. Kang Mo-Yeon get wed, raise a family and carry on with their duties as public servants.
However, some reports claim that the final episode of season 1 was the end of Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo) and Yoo Si Jin's (Song Joong Ki) story and that the upcoming season will focus mainly on the story line of the two supporting actors Yoon Myeong Joo and Seo Dae Young.
KBS has not revealed any detail yet about the upcoming series, but KBS drama president Jun Sung Ho previously revealed that they are targeting a 2017 air date.
"For the time being, we plan to proceed with a variety of projects with a 2017 broadcast goal," he said in his interview with Soompi.
Korean stars Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, collectively known as the "Song-Song couple," rose to fame following the meteoric success of the hit romantic drama series. The series was such a huge success that it bagged two of the biggest awards at the recently-concluded Asia Pacific Actors Network (APAN) Star Awards 2016 in South Korea.
"Descendants of the Sun" was recognized as the "Drama of the Year" by the jury, while Song Joong Ki was accorded the "Grand Excellence Award," which was the highest and most prestigious award given that night. Aside from the "Daesang" award which he received for his stellar performance in the series, the actor also took home the "Best Couple Award" with Song Hye Kyo.
Song Joong Ki was also recently named as the "Most Influential Person in the Entertainment Industry" in South Korea, while Song Hye Kyo was recognized as the "Goddess of Asia 2016," beating some of the biggest and most beautiful actresses in other Asian countries.
Currently, the two "Descendants of the Sun" lead stars are busy with their respective projects, with Song Joong Ki working on his upcoming film "Battleship Island," and Song Hye Kyo attending her modeling engagements abroad.
