'Dexter' Season 8, Series Finale Alternate Ending? Original Showrunner Clyde Phillips Wanted Different Ending
Dexter Season 8 Finale Spoilers!
If you haven't seen the final episode of the final season of the Showtime series, you may want to steer clear of this article.
It's a bittersweet time for Dexter fans. The show many of us binged in dorm rooms on lap tops with Doritos crumbs and sour patch kids covering our bed has finally come to an end. What did you think of the finale?
The original showrunner in charge of Dexter when it first came on the scene, Clyde Phillips says he was happy with the way the show ended but thinks his original idea would have been more satisfying conclusion.
Phillips told E! Online how he would have written the last episode:
"Dexter's opening his eyes and he's on the execution table at the Florida Penitentiary," Phillips says. "They're just starting to administer the drugs and he looks out through the window to the observation gallery."
Looking in from the gallery would be all of the famous and "weekly episodic kills" from the show's eight seasons. His brother, the Ice Truck Killer, La Guerta, Trinity, Doakes, Rita...etc would all be seen one last time by the viewers and the man responsible for their deaths.
Instead the way the actual series ended was with Dexter dumping his sister Deb's body in the ocean after taking her off life support after being shot by Oliver Saxon. After saying goodbye he steers his boat full speed into the approaching storm. Dexter fakes his death and is last seen as a lumberjack in the woods.
He deserts Hannah and Harrison, who are now safely in Buenos Aires, believing in his heart abandoning them is the only way to ensure their protection.
What do you think of the Dexter Season 8 finale? Which would you have rather seen?
