'Doctor Who' Christmas Special 2016 Spoilers & Air Date: Matt Lucas Returning As Nardole
From a table read with Peter Capaldi, Steven Moffat and the other people behind "Doctor Who," "Doctor Who: The Fan Show" revealed on Tuesday new details about the "Doctor Who" Christmas Special 2016.
"Doctor Who: The Fan Show" is the official You Tube channel of the BBC network.
It was confirmed during the show that comedian Matt Lucas will return to the show to reprise his role as Nardole. His character was first introduced in "Doctor Who" Christmas Special 2015, "The Husbands of River Song." In the upcoming Christmas Special, Lucas will again make an appearance, on top of his "sizeable role" in "Doctor Who" season 10.
While "The Fan Show" host Christel Dee did not reveal any major spoilers as to the plot of the Christmas Special, she did share her thoughts on Lucas' character.
"Nardole is quite different from your normal companion, because most companions are like, impressed by everything--and it's not that Nardole's not impressed--but what I like about him is he's almost like an anti-companion. He's kind of like, 'Can we not? No, Doctor, don't do that.' But not in a horrible way, in a really funny way, and they make such a great double act," said Dee.
The show did not confirm if Bill, the Doctor's new companion, will appear on the 2016 Christmas Special, but it is possible that the character will be given a lengthier introduction in the early episodes of the upcoming season.
"Doctor Who" season 10 is set to premiere on the BBC in spring of 2017. The Christmas Special airs on December 25.
