Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the hit A&E reality series "Duck Dynasty," will appear on the cover of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's newest "Decision" magazine.
In the February 2014 issue of Decision magazine, the cover displays a picture of Robertson wearing camouflage gear and armed with a shotgun and duck call. The headline in Robertson's cover photo states "Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson: In the Cross Hairs of the War on Christianity."
Robertson was temporarily suspended by A&E after expressing his views that homosexuality is a sin in a GQ magazine in 2013.
In last year's GQ magazine, Robertson paraphrased the Bible by stating, "Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers-they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."
The reality show star's remarks ignited a much bigger debate on First Amendment rights to free speech and freedom of religion, especially due to the fact A&E network previously decided to suspend Robertson from his reality show indeterminately. Some people debated that Robertson should not be penalized for stating his religious views, while others wondered where does one draws the line between religious expression and "hate speech."
"I appreciate the Robertson family's strong commitment to biblical principles and their refusal to back down under intense media pressure over Phil Robertson's comments in a recent interview. As the Robertson controversy winds down-at least for now-I have been amazed at how many churches have apparently 'ducked' out on the issue (sin). Some were even quick to condemn Phil Robertson," said Graham on the Billy Graham Organization website.
Decision is the official magazine of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, and according to the organization's website, the goal of the publication is to "[encourage] and [strengthen] Christians in their daily walk with Christ," plus giving "discipleship and teaching on how to reach out to others for Christ and stay informed on BGEA news."
The critically acclaimed reality series Duck Dynasty airs on the A&E network on Wednesdays at 10pm EST.
