Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson Gets Compared to Rosa Park's Bus Driver by Rev. Jesse Jackson
Reverend Jesse Jackson. has now entered the debate regarding the remarks made by Phil Robertson, star of A&E's hit reality series, "Duck Dynasty."
In a statement released on Christmas Eve, the former Presidential candidate compared Robertson's recent commentary about African-Americans, women, and gay people to comments made by the driver of Rosa Parks' bus.
"At least the bus driver, who ordered Rosa Parks to surrender her seat to a white person, was following state law," said Jackson. "Robertson's statements were uttered freely and openly without cover of the law, within a context of what he seemed to believe was 'white privilege.'"
The civil rights assemblage Rainbow PUSH Coalition led by Jackson insisted that both A&E and Cracker Barrel should set up a get-together on the subject of the two companies' handling of "The Duck Commander" in a few days.
Jackson's group, along with LGBT group GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) and the National Organization for Women, advised A&E to put Robertson on suspension from the show about the family that made millions by creating and selling duck calls in the state of Louisiana.
"It is unacceptable that a personality who has been given such a large platform would benefit from racist and anti-gay comments," said the civil rights group representatives in the news release.
After The Duck Dynasty Patriarch expressed his views that Homosexuality is a sin, Cracker Barrel discarded Duck Dynasty products from its stores.
However, According to a Cracker Barrel press release, the Tennessee-based company returned all Duck Dynasty merchandise on Sunday after some consumers dissented.
"We respect all individuals' right to express their beliefs," Cracker Barrel's press release said. "We certainly did not mean to have anyone think different."
