Earthquake Today: Washington Earthquake Update - 4.0 Magnitude Quake Hits Puget Sound Area, Little to No Damage
Early on Wednesday, September 17, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake shook the Puget Sound Area; it was the largest quake in the Western Washington region this year so far.
The center of the quake was identified under the Hood Canal. It started at around three in the morning and lasted just a few seconds. Another quake was felt, which centered near Seabeck, west of Bremerton.
John Vidale, the director of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, which was based at University of Washington, has since confirmed this information.
The U.S Geological Survey website entitled "Did you feel it" received nearly 500 reports regarding the said earthquake. Vidale confirmed that the reports were from people around the Puget Sound Area. He also stated that the shaking was also felt from Marysville to Olympia.
Even though the earthquake did not cause any severe damage or injury, its 4.0 magnitude status topped any previous quake in the region this year.
Additionally, it's been said that the quake had a depth of 10 miles. Vidale said that the quake woke him up as the alarms went off. He said that beepers go off whenever there is an earthquake and they make sure all the reports are done right. Evidently many were greatful that this high magnitude earthquake did not result in any fatalities.
The Kitsap Country emergency dispatched during the quake has not gotten any reports of injuries or damages.
An email was received from Kurt Schlosser, stating that he had felt the quake roll through the headboard of his bed, following through his feet and then rattled his TV on the dresser, and ended on the other side of his room.
