Fake Grand Theft Auto 5 For PC Torrent Infects Thousands of Computers With Spyware [MORE DETAILS INSIDE]

The recent release of Grand Theft Auto 5 may have been in the headlines for all the right reasons after selling $1 billion worth of copies in the first three days of the release and making it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the seventh time, but today the game has made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Still being available only on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms, Rockstar Games has yet to confirm if they will be releasing a PC version of the game. A fake copy of GTA5 has made its way online for eager PC gamers to download.

The 18GB torrent file looks legit with its working setup.exe file, its high SEO ranking, and Facebook page, but after the setup of the file things take a turn for the worst. Downloaders are asked to take a number of surveys to receive a registration code for the fake copy of GTA5. The survey asks downloaders for personal information, which in fact puts some downloaders in scam mode, but for those who aren't alerted by this key step, the torrent downloads 18GB of spyware onto their computers.

Some have figured out the download is a fake after looking at the actual size of the file and the sluggish download speed. PC game leaks do happen, but for GTA5 it's just too good to be true, so beware.

Stay tuned for more news and updates.
