The film series came about five years ago, when Ryan, stumbled on some old VHS tapes of a series Dr. Dobson taught in churches in the '70s called "Focus on the Family" which of course became the name of the ministry he founded. The videotaped series was seen by 1/3 of the U.S. adult population within a few months, and became the parenting benchmark for people of faith, but Ryan and his friends--all young parents--said they needed something like it now.
Ryan then began the crusade to get his dad to re-cast the series for today's generation, and 'Building A Family Legacy' was born.
Dr. Dobson's latest literature 'Your Legacy: The Greatest Gift' is Dr. Dobson's 40th book. Released September 9th from Hachette, the book talks about the legacy we leave to our kids that endures for generations. Dr. Dobson a well accomplished author and broadcaster condenses his 50 years of clinical practice, counseling and ministry into one parenting advice book.
Ryan released his own book called, 'Wanting to Believe', the same day from B&H Publishing, in which he talks about his rebellion, dark chapter, and coming to his own understanding of faith and the importance of family.
Dr. Dobson is widely known for his ministry for families. Dr. Dobson left "Focus on the Family" several years ago, he felt there was more for him to do, so he established FamilyTalk ministry and radio broadcast. FamilyTalk is now heard on hundreds of stations across the country and this Legacy project, he believes, is the most important thing he's done in his life. "If we don't get our legacy right," he said in a press release, "then the rest doesn't matter."
