Family Ministries Axes Duck Dynasty Event Over New Wine Deal

Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson has been given the boot by Family Ministries. Robertson was scheduled to speak during a benefit event the organization has put together in Bristol, Tennessee, but the organization gave him the axe after learning of Robertson's latest business venture, "Duck Commander Wines."

Last week the Duck Dynasty crew announced the wine line, which is in conjunction with the winemakers of Trinchero Family Estates in Napa and is the booze is scheduled to hit store shelves next month. Family Ministries says Duck Commander Wines goes against their core values and that they're expecting more teens to be in attendance to the event and having the Duck Commander CEO's speaking wouldn't send the right message.

"Our greatest responsibility is to the young people we serve. Therefore, we feel that in light of the recent news, to continue with this event would send mixed messages to the young people who go through our Adolescent Drug and Alcohol program," Derek Bell, director of development for Family Ministries stated. "Our message must be consistent. The lives of those children may well hang in the balance.  We certainly apologize to the people who have already purchased tickets, and pray they understand our position."

The cancellation has sparked some not so nice publicity from Duck Dynasty fans on Twitter. One user called the family, "#money #wine #fake," another user tweeted, "I knew this was a problem as soon as I saw the first advertisement. I'm afraid they have lost their focus."
