The Fifth Estate Movie Cast and Plot Reviews: WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange Predicts Movie Will Fail [TRAILER]
WikiLeaks has been a hot topic of discussion ever since the company, lead by Julian Assage, released secret documents on its website that incriminated governments from around the world. The movie The Fifth Estate is based on the WikiLeaks organization and the leak of these documents, but Assange has spoken out against the movie saying that it is "irresponsible, counterproductive and harmful."
The cast of The Fifth Estate is lead by veteran actor Benedict Cumberbatch as Assange and the plot centers around his initial documents leak. Cumberbatch reached out Assange before filming for The Fifth Estate started in a letter. Assange answered, saying, "I believe you are a good person, but I do not believe that this film is a good film. I believe that it is going to be overwhelmingly negative for me and the people I care about. It is based on a deceitful book by someone who has a vendetta against me and my organization."
So far, it looks as if Assange has predicted correctly. The Fifth Estate only grossed 1.7 million in its opening weekend, the worst opening weekend of a wide release film this year. Some critics believe that the timing was just wrong. There are several political dramas out right now, including "Captain Phillips" and "Fruitvale Station."
The Fifth Estate received a score of 38% on Rotten Tomatoes.
