Floyd Mayweather Jr. News: Boxers Weigh in on Mayweather-Berto Fight

It's been widely anticipated that Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be picking Andre Berto to be his opponent for his 49th fight on Sep. 12 fight, and after TMZ Sports reported that the undefeated fighter has indeed decided on fighting Berto, a number of prominent boxing personalities wasn't pleased with the decision. Business Insider ran an article highlighting some of the comments made on social media and from different reports.

One Twitter user @R_Munny wrote, "@FloydMayweather uses a 40k machine for cryotherapy. @AndreBerto uses a trashcan in bathroom w/ice #Mayweather," referencing the presumed huge mismatch.

Last week, when Mayweather first hinted at fighting Berto, ESPN's Dan Rafael did not believe the pound-for-pound champion was serious.

"Floyd said he'll fight Berto or Mayfield next. I asked if he was kidding. He seemed to be serious. Said Pacquiao fought Algieri so why not?" Rafael tweeted.

"Oh my god. I don't even want to break that fight down," former welterweight champion Shane Mosley told an ESPN reporter when asked about the bout. "I'm not even going to talk about that fight. It's not, that's, that's not a fight. I don't know if it's going to be worse than the Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather fight, I'm not sure. But, I'm not talking about it."

Victor Ortiz, who lost via knockout to Mayweather back in 2011 also weighed in.

"That's embarrassing, bro. That's not even a fight. If anything dude, they both need to retire or at least Floyd needs to give some kind of a chance to redeem himself. I have no respect for that. I have no respectful reply for that. I don't know. If we keep going I'll say a lot of bad things," Ortiz said.

Boxing legend tweeted that the viewers should be paid to watch "this mismatch." Adding, "What an extremely bad fight."

While former four-division champion Erik Morales told ESPN Deportes, as translated by Edward Chaykovsky, "I don't think it's a very competitive bout. It's two fighters who, without being racist, almost nobody wants to see. Perhaps the fight is interesting for them, but not for us. Berto was defeated by Víctor Ortiz, Ortiz was knocked out by Maidana, and Maidana was dominated by Mayweather...[The fight with Berto is something] I do not understand. He does not want to take a risk, he has never wanted to take a risk, and he doesn't want to take a risk now."

Mayweather's camp has yet to confirm the reports about Berto being the champion's next fight.
