'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Casting Spoilers: Tommen Baratheon Replaced by Older Actor / Spring 2014 Premiere Date
Game of Thrones is shaking up the cast a bit for Season 4. Joffrey Lannister's little brother, Tommen is rumored to have been re-cast my an older actor.
In fact he's being re-cast by an older actor who was killed off in Season 3.
According to reports from Thrones fan site Winter is Coming, the actor who played the Lannister squire Martyn, Dean-Charles Chapman. Martyn was killed by the Karstarks while held prisoner by King of the North, Robb Stark.
Why you would replace one of the cast members with an actor that was featured in several episodes, playing a different character is beyond me. Perhaps the decision indicates a larger role for Tommen in Season 4.
If the Tommen's part is getting beefed up in Season 4 then they definitely picked an actor with plenty of experience. Chapman played Richard Grey The White Queen, a historical drama on Starz. He also played the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical.
Chapman isn't the only new addition to Game of Thrones Season 4. Other new cast members include:
Roger Ashton-Griffiths as Mace Tyrell
Pedro Pascal as Prince Oberyn "The Red Viper" Martell
Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand (Oberyn's lover)
Mark Gatiss (unknown role)
Game of Thrones comes back to HBO for the Season 4 premiere in spring 2014. Part two of Thrones author George R.R. Martin's third installment A Storm of Swords will inspire the batch of 10 new episodes.
