“Glee” Delayed Due to Star Cory Monteith’s Death
Fox has announced the fall season premiere of hit TV show "Glee" will be delayed a week following Cory Monteith's death. Originally scheduled to premiere Sept. 19th, "Glee" Season 5 will continue starting Thursday, Sept. 26th.
Monteith, better known as his character Finn Hudson from the show, was absent from the ending of season 4 after checking himself into a substance abuse rehabilitation facility in April.
The actor passed away suddenly on July 13th in a Vancouver hotel due to an overdose caused by alcohol and heroin. Many fans mourned the loss of this beloved actor including on and off screen girlfriend Lea Michele.
The creator of the show, Ryan Murphy, has had the difficult task of addressing Monteith's death on the show. Michele and Murphy ultimately decided the best solution would be to continue working in a manner where all cast and crewmembers could be with one another while grieving.
The first two episodes of season 5 have been written featuring a Beatles' tribute and will only need a little tweaking.
Murphy had planned after the third episode for the show to go "off the air for awhile and take a hiatus."
Montieth's character Finn Hudson will not be recast. Murphy backed this upsaying:
"The right thing to do for the show, at least at this point, is to have that character pass. When we do the tribute episode to that character, we'll have to do it in a way where the castmembers will not have to re-create feelings of grief that they've had this week -but do it in an upbeat way."
