The season 5 premiere of hit show "The Good Wife" will feature several conflicts between cast members. The last scene of the season 4 finale featured Cary and Alicia planning on leaving their current firm to start a new one. Julianna Margulies (Alicia) said, "I wanted it to be an element of surprise, and that's what [the show's creators, Robert and Michelle King] are so good at. I think I actually got more than I bargained for." Robert King said, "You're trying to quietly solicit clients for the new firm as you get your ducks in order and you feel like a betrayer. Alicia starts to realize that the associates she's leaving with are thinking idealistically and not like mature partners would."

A new face that viewers will recognize is Jeffrey Tambor, who will appear as a judge in at least two episodes. Robert describes him as a "very sarcastic federal judge who's now becoming slightly attracted to Alicia."
