Google Helpouts Launch Day Review: Google Adds a Personal Touch to Their Powerful Search Engine With Google Helpouts [VIDEO]

Google launched a new tool called Google Helpouts on Tuesday that is designed to bring a personal flavor to their search engine. The Helpouts format is pretty much the exact same thing as Google Hangouts, but it is used to connect you to a customer service representative who will answer questions about a specific topic for you.

Heather Kelly from CNN.com wrote, "You're attempting to make meringue and your egg whites are a runny mess. What if you could pick up your phone or computer and instantly video chat with a cooking expert who can take a look at your kitchen disaster and tell you exactly what you're doing wrong?"

So far, Google has over 1,000 providers who are onboard with Google Helpouts to give video support to Google users for a small fee. Providers can charge based on services, time spent "on-call," or by minute.

Many critics think that the "pay-per-view" strategy is going to fail because of YouTube's abundance of "how-to" videos on pretty much any subject. Google is betting that people would rather talk to a person live, even if it costs them a small amount, than try to scour the web for the perfect video.

Google's most ambitious facet of Helpouts is the hope that the live sessions will become a routine part of American healthcare and will be acceptable to use insurance on. The idea is called "Telemedicine."
