Rumor has it that Google will be releasing a new 'smartwatch' sometime before the beginning of the year, in amist to Samsungs failure to produce the watch. The Galaxy Gear was an epic fail when it was released to the public as it seemed like Samsung was rushed in the process to beat Apple. Samsungs slip was obviously a opening for Google as they have picked up where they left off and are in the process of making the 'Gem' Google Smartwatch. The 'Gem' smartwatch is reportedly supposed to be unveiled at the same time the Samsung KitKat 4.4, however, there has been no more word on the unveiling.
The Google Smartwatch is said to be a advanced Android OS based watch that has the same capabilities as a smartphone. The Google Smartwatch will be based off of Google Glass with tiny peices of information on the watches homescreen. The watch will feature Google Glass style tapping, which will allow the watch to recognize zoom and pinch features. The 'Gem' is said to be used for a standalone watch with the added features of a tablet and/or smartphone on your wrist. 'Gem' will have all the features of a smartphone and will allow the user to be able to answer and end calls on the persons wrist, as well as, see e-mail notifications. The 'Gem' Google Smartwatch is also said to have Google Maps on it that will navigate you to your specified needs or location.
Though not confirmed, the Google Smartwatch is said to have a USB port where the user can potentially sync any information necessary to the computer or the smartwatch device. The Google Smartwatch 'Gem' will have several built in apps such : Gmail, Text-Messages, Google Maps, and the possibilty of Web.
