'Goosebumps' Movie 2015 Release Date: August Launch, Jack Black Cast (Interview)
The new 'Goosebumps' movie will start comedian Jack Black as the spooky storyteller himself R.L Stine. In a recent interview, the actor his role in the film which is slated for an August 7, 2015 release.
Jack Black is known for his roles in kid's movies ('Kung Fu Panda', 'School of Rock'), which seems to be a fitting genre for the actor. Entertainment Weekly recently asked Black why he chose to work on another kid's movie like 'Goosebumps'.
"Well, I read the script, saw my friend Rob Letterman was directing it and I thought it was great. It's funny and scary-something that would be great to take my kids to. And something that would be fun to make. And I had never read any of the R. L. Stein books as a kid because I grew up before then. I'm an old man, I'm 44. So by the time the books rolled around, I was in college and doing shows, theater around the country and stuff. I was more into Nirvana and [laughs] more mature things. But after I read the script and signed on to do the movie, I read some of the books and they're great." he said
The interview is rather extensive and touches on a lot of personal preferences and opinions that Jack Black himself has. When asked if he's a fan of the horror genre, he replied by saying it's his favorite. The film 'The Shining' starring Jack Nicholson is a classic highly rated, and it so happens that its his all time favorite film.
An interesting question was posed to the actor/comedian/musician about what it's like to play R.L Stine, considering he's still alive. Jack Black was asked if he felt any pressures playing that role, "I didn't really because even though I'm playing a real person, this is obviously a fictionalized version of his life and nothing that happens in this movie actually happened to him, other than him writing all the books. So I felt like, I was just going to approach it as a character, doing what I thought was most dramatically interesting and right for what was needed. I also got to meet R.L. and he's a really great guy. Really smart and funny and sweet. But I made [the character] more of a sort of curmudgeonly dark, brooding beast master. So from the very beginning, I was taking liberties. I think he's cool with it though. [Laughs] He's been on set and he actually did a little cameo. He saw what I was doing and he was digging it. Or at least he pretended like he was digging it."
As fans of the series anticipate the upcoming movie they can think about all the great 'Goosebumps' titles from 1992 to 1997. In total 62 books were published under the 'Goosebumps' name.
