'Gotham' Episode 2 'Selena Kyle' Recap, Spoilers: Mixed Reviews, Cat Without Batman
The latest episode of the new Batman based series, 'Gotham' aired on September 29, and received some conflicting reviews. While some felt the acting in the show was something worth mentioning, others felt disenchanted with the series, enough to change the channel.
Starting with a recap of Episode 2, entitled "Selena Kyle," some fans felt the title was a tad deceiving. Many came to this conclusion because the character Selena Kyle, played by Camren Bicondova, also known as "Cat" only appeared thirty something minutes into the episode (brief opening aside).
However, what viewers did get to learn about the character is that she's the strong silent type. In the episode, she witnesses the iconic murder of Batman's parents, the Waynes, and she spots Gordon visit Wayne mayor. All of this, done without her presence known by the characters she had stalked.
Fans should remember that's it's going to be a while before she transforms into her Robin Hoodeqsue type persona and begins to cat burgle houses.
Unfortunately, the character does a complete 180° with her persona in the episode. Cat instantly becomes open to conversation as she toys with the correctional officers. Viewers can rememeber that she calls them "piggerina" and coyly threatens them with formulating child abuse allegations.
Fans of Batman can recall that Catwoman has been depicted in various different ways in the films, comics, and television series over the years. Evidently, there's not one true form and persona that Catwoman is supposed to conform to.
However, many fans feel that there's a wrong way to go about this, and that is to take on a dual style persona with the character. Unfortunately, that's exactly what Bicondova does, which leaves many 'Gotham' viewers grimacing.
According to a Reddit official episode discussion post, views had some pretty conflicting opinions on Episode 2, "Selina Kyle."
One commenter wrote, "I'm actually really enjoying this show so far. The actors are absolutely killing it. The sets are amazing, and unlike the later Nolan movies, Gotham actually feels like a unique city..."
While another commenter offered his or her rebutal, "And the actors killing it is a hilarious claim, about 3 actors on the show are great, the rest are embarassing, and that child acting ... The Champ would be rolling in his grave. Carmine Falcone and Bullock are great, the rest are a joke."
'Gotham' Episode 2 entitled "The Balloonman" airs on October, 6.
