GTA 5 PS4 & Xbox One Release Date Still Not Confirmed, But PC Version Appears to Be In Development (Gameplay Video)

Grand Theft Auto 5 was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, and immediately broke all sorts of sales records. The game has become so popular that fans have quickly rallied to call for game makers Rockstar Games to launch the game on the PS4 and Xbox One. However, despite months of calls on various blogs and Internet gaming forums, Rockstar has still not confirmed a release date for the game on the latest Next Gen consoles.

Rockstar has yet to officially announce a release date for either the PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, however, there has been strong hints that a new PC version is at least in the works. A reference to a "GTA5.exe" file in the latest AMD Catalyst driver has been allegedly found, and that has stirred all kinds of excitement among GTA fans that the PC version is not far off.

As for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, Rockstar has officially stated there are no firm plans as to when they would be released, but a PS4 source code has been found in the Xbox 360 version of the game. That has led many to believe that it is inevitable that the next-gen version will arrive sometime next year.

According to The Market for Computer and Video Games, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said in an interview that the game would move with the demands of players on different consoles: "If that's where consumers are, absolutely we'll release our game on that," he said.

With the undoubted success of the PS4 and Xbox One consoles, those comments also seem to reinforce the idea that it is surely only a matter of time until Rockstar launches GTA 5 for fans on those next gen consoles.

Rumors have already flown over potential pre-order dates leaked by different electronics and game purveyors in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. In addition, Amazon in certain European nations has been leaking possible release dates for P.C. versions of GTA.

Commentators have already suggested that one facet of the new release of a P.C. formatted version would be the inclusion of the Oculus Virtual Reality Headset.

According to the Examiner, Zelnick has said about the device: "Oculus Rift was a big smash and wonder at CES--and our folks were very impressed with it. It remains to be seen what we can do with it, but [Oculus] has already addressed some of the big challenges (such as users getting motion sick) that it faced early on. ... I'm encouraged by anything that gets people more engaged with interactive entertainment."

Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently available for purchase online from the "Rockstar Warehouse" for $59.99 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. As for the PS4 and Xbox One, fans will have to wait a bit longer.

Meanwhile, Rockstar has offered this video showing off some of the gameplay features available on GTA 5:
