Hanson New Album Release Date, 2013 Tour: "Anthem" Marks Bold, Soul Sound From "MMMBop" Writers / New Single "Get the Girl Back" [VIDEO]
Hanson has come a long way since their 90s smash "MMMBop" and are impressing fans and critics with the bold direction of their new album Anthem which was just released June 18th.
"It's got a lot of big sounding songs," Taylor Hanson told Billboard. "We really thought of the audience when we did them - we imagined the interaction with the crowd."
Sure picking the same album release date as Kanye West, who just released his sixth studio album Yeezus today, maybe wasn't the best marketing decision, but the album continues to receive favorable reviews.
Hanson released the first single off Anthem ["Get the Girl Back"] back in April. To help nail the throwback sound Hanson wanted for the new album, the brother trio recruited some help from the soulful Fits and the Tantrums. Bassist Joe Karnes and lead singer Michael Fitzpatrick not only helped on the first single, "Get the Girl Back" and according to Hanson drummer/percussionist Zac Hanson, the two also wrote and recorded a bonus track for Anthem.
Horn arrangements were written by Jerry Hey.
In celebration of the new album and Hanson's 21st birthday as a band, the brothers are releasing their first IPA beer: MMMHops.
At least the group is comfortable and confident enough to poke a little fun at their 1997 success.
