New Homefront Movie Filled With Action, Void of Plot or Story
Are you looking to go see an action packed gang movie over the holiday season? If so, Homefront should be your first choice next time you're at the movie theater. Starring Jason Statham as an undercover DEA agent, the story begins with a gang leader's son's murder, which Statham is involved in. Statham's character is forced to relocate to a tiny Louisiana town in order to escape the wrath of the gang leader.
David Blaustein from ABCNews.com wrote, "Homefront has its suspenseful moments but occasionally feels like it was written by a violent 12-year-old. The thing is, it was written by Sylverster Stallone, who let's not forget won a best screenplay Oscar nod in 1976 for 'Rocky.' Violence aside, we're expected to develop an emotional connection to Broker and Maddy as we learn he's a widower and Maddy misses her mommy. It's partially effective, because young Vidovic proves to be one of the best actors in this movie."
Maddy, Statham's daughter, sets the story in motion when she defends herself against a bully at school. The bully's mother, embarrassed that her son was beaten up by a girl, tells her brother to "put a scare" into Statham's character.
The main complaint that critics have is that with a little work on the dialogue and story arc, this movie could have been a truly good movie instead of just a brainless action flick. The acting is stellar and the storyline, although formulaic, could have showcased the actor's skills more instead of simply highlighting the violence.
