'Homeland' Season 3 Details: Showrunner Alex Gansa Welcomes Back Original Writer Meredith Stiehm to Pen Finale

SomehowSeason 3 of Showtime's award-winning post-911 thriller Homeland hasn't been able to capitalize on the critical praise the series received in its first two season.

Sure the twist at the end of Carrie's mental institution was classic, the build up was drab and boring. Brody's storyline for most of the first eight hardly existed, choosing to focus more on the politics behind CIA hierarchy.

To help pick up the pace by the end of the season, Homeland heads Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon have brought back Meredith Stiehm, who was heavily involved in fleshing out Claire Danes' character Carrie Mathison in the shows freshman and sophomore seasons.

"We're thrilled to welcome Meredith back as she's been an integral part of Homeland from the beginning," said Bert Salke. President of Fox 21. "She's a fantastic writer and this deal returns her to this hugely valuable asset as well as allows us to develop with her down the road."

Steihm is not only back on the Homeland staff but she has also agreed to co-write the Season 3 finale.

Stiehm also created the popular CBS series Cold Case and wrote for The Bridge Season 1, playing a big part in the show being signed on for a 13-episode second season. She will continue as executive producer and writer for the show.
