The new season of "How to Get Away with Murder" is welcoming nine-times Grammy Award-winning singer Mary J. Blige to the cast.

While the episode where she will appear remains unknown, show creator Pete Nowalk said her character is crucial to the storyline.

According to reports, Blige will not appear in the premiere episode and her role is not that big, but it is pivotal.

"It's not a huge part, but it is a pivotal part to Annalise because we got to see more about her that we didn't know," said Nowalk during the season 3 premiere screening and panel. He further teased that Blige's role could be a recurring one.

Asked how the Grammy Award-winner landed a role in the series, the show creator revealed that the iconic R&B singer is a huge fan of the series.

"It kinda just landed in our lap. Apparently she's a huge fan of our show. Right when we found that out, we had written this part and I was like, 'Oh, that's the perfect part for her.' And she was shooting two days later," he said.

Nowalk said everyone was excited to have Blige on the set. According to cast member Conrad Ricamora, he freaked out knowing that Blige would be part of the series because he's a huge a fan.

"I was freaking out because 'What's the 411,' I was making up dance routines to that whole album in my bedroom," he said, referring to Blige's album back in 1992.

"If I talk about how excited I am, I might give something away because what was written for her and the way that it's done was just so perfect," added Aja Naomi King.

Meanwhile, here is the synopsis for season 3:

"With Wallace Mahoney's murder unsolved and Frank's whereabouts unknown, the "Keating 5" struggle to move on with their lives as they enter into their second year of law school. Meanwhile, Annalise's reputation at Middleton University is on the line, so she creates a criminal law clinic where the students will compete to try their own pro bono cases. Annalise also wrestles with a decision involving Frank that could change everything."

"How to Get Away with Murder" season 3 premiered on Sept. 22, 10:00 p.m. on ABC.
