'How To Train Your Dragon 3' Release Date News: Third Installment Pushed Back?

The second sequel of "How to Train Your Dragon" hits another snag in its production.

Since Dream Works released "How to Train Your Dragon 2" in 2014, the studio has always wanted to keep the franchise alive. However, the sequel has been continuously delayed, making fans wonder if "How to Train Your Dragon 3" will ever hit theaters.

Originally, the next sequel was scheduled to hit theaters in June of this year. In 2014, however, it was pushed back to 2017. In January 2015, the film was pushed back again to 2018. And now, recent reports confirm that "How to Train Your Dragon 3" will be released in 2019.

This week, Universal announced that the film will hit theaters on March 1, 2019, a week before "Brie Larson" and "Captain Marvel" arrive.

While the production of the sequel has been constantly delayed, the creators of the series assured fans that this does not necessarily mean the film is in trouble.

Meanwhile, here is the synopsis for "How to Train Your Dragon 3:"

"As Hiccup fulfills his dream of creating a peaceful dragon utopia, Toothless' discovery of an untamed, elusive mate draws the Night Fury away. When danger mounts at home and Hiccup's reign as village chief is tested, both dragon and rider must make impossible decisions to save their kind."

"How to Train Your Dragon" is one of Dream Works' most lucrative franchises, even spawning a spinoff series for Netflix. For the upcoming film, Dean Delois is back to direct with the members of the film's original voice cast.
