Disney has officially announced that "Indiana Jones" will be back for its fifth installment. What adds more hype to this is the announcement that Steven Spielberg will also return to direct the film and Harrison Ford will reprise his role as the famous archeologist.

Speculations about the fifth "Indiana Jones" movie have been around since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012. That time, however, Disney was focused on resurrecting "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Walt Disney Studios' chairman Alan horn noted in a press release back in March that they consider Indiana Jones as one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history.

"Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can't wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019," said the Walt Disney executive.

"It's rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn't be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven," he added.

The upcoming installment will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.

Fans believe that Disney is finally turning its attention to "Indiana Jones 5" since the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" movie has just made its successful comeback.

As of this writing, the studio has not dropped any detail on the upcoming film.

Meanwhile, the animated "Indiana Jones" movie is set for release online this month. The project started around the release of "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" when Lucasfilm commissioned Patrick Schoenmaker to come up with a print envisioning the iconic character as an animated cartoon. It took Schoenmaker five years to complete the animated movie.
