INTERVIEW: Matt Price Shares About His Debut EP, His First Concert & His Upcoming Touring Plans

Matt Price is an up and coming artist with his debut EP releasing today (Sept. 24th).

We would like to thank Matt for taking the time to speak with BreatheCast.

BreatheCast: How does it feel to finally be releasing your debut EP tomorrow (Sept. 24)?

MP: "I'm really excited. It has been a little over a year long process between writing and recording, so it's fun to see all of the hard work come to fruition."

BreatheCast: How would you describe your sound for people that haven't heard of you guys and what artists have influenced your sound?

MP: "I would describe my sound somewhere between Brandon Heath, The Afters, and OneRepublic.  I've also been really influenced by MercyMe and Michael W. Smith; they are my musical heroes, and they shaped me as a writer and artist growing up."

BreatheCast: You got to do a Christmas tour with Newsong & Francesca Battistelli last year, how was that experience?

MP: "Yes, I had the opportunity last year to fill in on keys, and it was an amazing experience. Building 429 and Jonny Diaz were also there, and they were so kind and encouraging. I will definitely never forget it!"

BreatheCast: If you could collaborate with one Secular Artist and one Christian Artist, who would you choose?

MP: "Brandon Heath would be awesome to work with! He's a seasoned songwriter, and I really respect his ability to craft songs that people instantly connect with. I'm a fan of big, memorable melodic hooks and that is something he has perfected. On the secular side, I think working with Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic would be my pick. They have this magical sound that instantly has the power to take you away from whatever you are doing."

BreatheCast: What was the first concert you ever attended?

MP: "That would have to be Jars of Clay somewhere around 1997. It was a great concert!"

BreatheCast: Do you have a current scripture that has been speaking to you?

MP: "There is a song on the new record called "We Won't Waver". It originated from Hebrews 6:19, which says "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul".  This has been on my mind so much lately! Hope is one of those words that we hear so much that it can lose its impact. When I think of hope, I think of God's promise of eternity. I mean can you imagine what Heaven is going to be like? To reunite with our loved ones-the joy and celebration?  What it's going to be like to embrace Jesus? It's this hope that grounds us-that anchors us during the storms of this life. We will not waver because we firmly believe in the unshakeable promises of God!"

BreatheCast: What are your touring plans for this Fall 2013?

MP: "There are definitely plans for a "We Won't Waver" tour. We are currently working out dates for this fall and early 2014, so we will have a much clearer picture very soon!"
