Interview: SoulFire Revolution Shares About their New Album 'Revival', Working with TobyMac & Their Plans for the Rest of 2013

Soulfire Revolution is worship band from Bogota, Columbia and are part of MCI chruch there. Their new worship album Revival hit stores on Tuesday (Aug 13).

We would like to thank Lorena of Soulfire Revolution for taking the time to do this interview with BreatheCast.

BreatheCast: The release of your new album Revival is just one week away (August 13). How excited are you guys?

SFR: "So excited! This album really speaks about our hearts for worship and we hope everyone will get to worship God in a new way."

BreatheCast: What are some of the differences between worship music in Colombia and worship music in America?

SFR: "Right now not much, Colombia is very influenced by the US, and I think worship is pretty much the same, simple songs being sang to God. Something that is amazing is how passionate people are in Colombia, it's like a supernatural fire, this is why the album is also called Revival. I mean what God is doing in Colombia is supernatural. In our church we have more than 2,000 people giving their lives to Jesus every week."

BreatheCast: How would you describe your sound for people that haven't heard of you guys and what bands have influenced your sound?

SFR: "This album is different; it has a lot of ambiance, and we were looking to try new sounds. But it's got rock, pop and some type of experiments. One of the bands that marked us was Delirious, we basically grew up listening to them. But the first time they went to Colombia, something supernatural happened and the whole church entered into a new level of worship. Then they prayed for us and the ministry.  And of course we love what Hillsong is doing, Jesus Culture, TobyMac, and a lot of different artists that are amazing."

BreatheCast: Tell us the story behind your new song, "Glorious"?

SFR: "Well John Mark McMillan actually brought that song. When he came to the song writing session, he told us: "I woke up with this melody in my head, There is a hope that won't disappoint..." and it sounded amazing, from there we started developing the song. And the statement, "Glorious, strong enough to save" is something so powerful, and a true prayer from our heart."

BreatheCast:  What was it like collaborating with TobyMac on your song "Spirit Break Out"?

SFR: "It was something unexpected; we are a new band, and all of our lives we've admired TobyMac so much. But when he agreed to write a rap for that song and then to record it as well, that was unbelievable. The first time we heard it, we were shocked, it was so good and he captured the spirit of the song."

BreatheCast: If you could collaborate with one Secular Artist and one Christian Artist, who would you choose?

SFR: "Well for secular, maybe like a DJ someone who could remix a song, I love electronic music as well. And for Christian just any artist who loves worship music, we love to collaborate with artists, that's why in this album we have 3 amazing artists."

BreatheCast: Do you guys have a favorite scripture as a band or a truth that you guys use a lot? If not, what are some personal favorite verses of yours?

SFR: "Yes, for this album one of the scriptures God gave us was in Psalms 37:8
"Wake up, my heart! Wake up, O lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song." It's our cry for God to truly Awaken our hearts for him, for his presence and to do his will."

BreatheCast: If you guys could each play professionally for any sports team for one day, who would you guys pick?

SFR: "Lorena: Tennis, currently playing and it's so fun
Paola: Soccer as well, she's quite good at it
Anthony: Squash, he used to play when he was younger
Julian: Soccer, his favorite sport"
