iPhone 5 Sale at Best Buy: Get $50 off for the next Month. Is this preparing the way for the iPhone 6?

Tech media site AllThingsD is reporting that Best Buy plans to begin a month-long iPhone sale on Sunday, May 26th. That's two days ago, if you're keeping count. The discount will apply to all iPhone models: the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. Prices will drop by $50. But, you still have to get a new contract with one of the approved providers: either AT&T, Sprint or Verizon.

It's no surprise that Best Buy and Apple are offering this discount now, since Memorial Day weekend is a big shoppers' weekend. Best Buy isn't stopping with the smartphone discount there, offering sales on several Android based smartphones, like the Samsung Galaxy Series. But, strangely, those sales will end on June 1st, while the iPhone sales will keep going. There's no official word on why Best Buy's iPhone sale will carry on for an entire month, but we can always guess.

iPhone 6 Coming?

Is this it? Is this the last desperate attempt by one of the nation's largest tech retailers to empty the stock of all previous Apple products to make room in stores and on shelves for the newest iteration of Apple's already immensely popular and world-dominating handset brand? Maybe.

Apple is no stranger to the needs of its distributors, and their relationship with Best Buy has always been great. It would make sense if a large retailer like Best Buy got the inside scoop on the release date of the new line of smartphones from Apple and is making a move. But, to look into any such gesture too much will only lead to frustration.

Apple always has, and always will, release their products when they want and how they want, regardless of any outside pressure. So, we can all hope that this is a grand sign from above that our new, shiny iPhone 6's are close at hand, but it's most likely a really great Memorial Day sale. Either way, you can get an iPhone 5 for $150. That's got to count for something, right?
